IRS MSSS Program – Support the Middleware components of the Modernized Infrastructure

FinTech to support the IRS Middleware Support Services Section (MSSS) Program and provide technical support for the Modernized Infrastructure at the IRS

FinTech to support the Middleware Support Services Section (MSSS) falls under the Middleware Branch of the Server Middleware and Test Infrastructure (SMTI) Division of Enterprise Operations (EOPS), a key organization within Modernization and Information Technology Services (MITS).   MSSS was created as the result of the re-organization of Enterprise Operations by the implementation of the Competency Based Organization (CBO).

Middleware is responsible for the transition of middleware products from Modernization to the IRS, and for supporting the entire lifecycle of the modernized infrastructure that has been transitioned to EOPS.  This includes the integration, configuration, and customization of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software (WebSphere, SiteMinder, Business Objects, Informatica, and MQ Series), as well as custom developed infrastructure applications and interfaces (Application Messaging and Data Access Service (AMDAS), Enterprise Directory and Authentication Services (EDAS), Content Delivery Services (CDS), Single Sign On (SSO), and Enterprise Application Integration Broker (EAIB).  These COTS and custom infrastructure applications support both the Registered User Portal (RUP) and the Employee User Portal (EUP) and associated security and subsystems.

The Middleware Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Stakeholders are the Business and Enterprise Operations organizations components, employees and contractors that have a direct or indirect stake the infrastructure supporting the Enterprise Production Environment. The SMTI Middleware Technical Support project is managed by MSSS.   Middleware is responsible for the overall project and serves as the program and systems integrator and will be the only organization that assigns work under this contract.  Middleware O&M is a collaborative effort among the project stakeholders.  The following table lists roles of each primary project stakeholder for Middleware O&M.
